Solid pewter flute displaying relief panels of the elvish swan ship. Works very well as a candle holder, tooth brush holder, you can drink wine out of it, gosh its multi talented. Name: Alice in wonderland chess set number 8 of 1st edition
Code: Alice chess set
This set belongs to Darron Mathews and is set 8 from the first edition of my Alice in Wonderland series. Set numbers 1 to 5 of the first edition had the Jabberwocky as a Knight on the dark side. Sets 6 to 50 had the knight on a horse (the white Knight) instead. This set has the white Knight. The Jabberwocky was replaced because at that time we had great difficulty making it. All our castings are one piece castings and the Jabberwocky had something like a 95% casting failure rate.Being lazy we gave up trying to perfect the technique. (we did this a year later)This set was given as a present to Darron Mathews over 25 years ago and he was kind enough to contact me and send me some photos. The set is in perfect condition and he still has the original wooden box with rope handles and the inlaid copper shim and wood chess board we hand made for it back then.We eventually made 5 editions of 50 sets and then a 6th and final edition of 66 sets. A total of 316 sets were made.Set number 1 of the first edition was stolen from the Alice 125 exhibition . It is pictured in the book based on this exhibition.Darrons set is valued at around $10000.

Name: Alice in Wonderland chess set. Edition 1 number 43.
Ron Mills owned this set .He has sold it however
You will notice this set has 2 Jaberwocky, and they never made it past the first 5 or so sets so the number 43 could be wrong.. Every pawn is different and the set has all the other first edition characters. The only thing that appears to have changed from the first 2or 3 sets is that the Mad Hatters hat has a brick pattern, signifying it as a castle, wheras the first couple had a hat with the price tag on it.
Sets in wonderfull condition and comes with one of our hand made copper and wood boards.

Name: Darron Mathew's
Code: alice chess set
Darron Mathews Alice set 1/8 dark side. The pieces in this set were based on Sir John Tenniels illustrations for the original Lewis Carrol's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass and what Alice found there". Tenniel was a cartoonist for Punch magazine back in the late 18 hundreds and many believe that he modeled many of his character drawings on famous people of that time. The Queen- Queen Victoria, The Lion (the white Bishop) -- Prime Minister Gladstone, The Unicorn (the dark Bishop) --The leader of the opposition Disraeli , and the white and Dark Knights are caricatures of Carrol himself. The other pieces are The mad Hatter, (castles) and the pawns are the rabbit, walrus, tweedle dee and dum,Caterpillar, mock turtle ,griffin and Alice herself. She was made a pawn because in "through the looking glass"(which is based on a chess game)Alice starts as a pawn to the story and eventually becomes a Queen. In chess the only piece that can do that is a pawn

Name: Sandy and Allan Brown resin chess set.
This set was a very early resin chess set made around 1974. I was experimenting with metal powder filled resin back in 1968. I got the metal powder from a guy I knew whose father owned a metal sintering business (Shorelube I think it was called) The powder I purchased was the metal powder they swept up from the floor. Until this time I was filling the resin sets with bolts and metal bits from nail makers etc so that the sets would be heavy and not plastic like. The metal powder was easier to mix with resin and gave me the weight I wanted. I found out that if I polished the cast resin/metal pieces in a rotary polisher the resin on the surface would be polished off exposing the metal powder... the worlds first so called "cold cast metal" chess sets. This set however was the next step up from that time consuming process. We filled this set with powdered metal but instead of polishing them we used the dry brush metalising process. ie dip a paint brush into metal paint , wipe of excess paint on the brush, them using dryish brush rub it over the piece. This leaves a metal finish on the highlights of the piece. The other interesting bit about this set is that the pieces were designed to be a one piece moulded with no seams. The design allowed the pieces to be popped out of the mould with no seam lines. This was before we invented a seamless split moulding system. But thats another story.

This set, number 32 of thefirst and only edition of 250 sets is owned by E Dylewski and is for sale . If you are interested please contact Ewaat mailto:ewadyle@gmail.com . It is in perfect condition and comes with the original handmade copper and wooden board and includes the original handwritten ownership papers. The set is made from iron powder filled polyester resin and surface treated with copper powder filled lacquer for the copper side and dry brushed with silver paint for the silver side. Looks really good considering it was made back in 1977.Good god, thats 32 years ago. Where on earth did the years go?.We only made 250 of these because the moulds broke down at about that point and we were ready to move onto another set by then. Those were the days.

Name: Chess set in a tube
This set was made about 22 years ago and only 25 of them were made. The idea was that the set would fit into a tube for packaging. The pieces were were shaped as quarter segments of a circle and hence 4 of the pieces formed a tube segment. The pieces were based on a medieval theme and the pawns were based on a ceramic chess set that I had made about 8 years earlier. I also tried making this set in metal powder filled resin but only made a few sets from this material mainly because I detest polyester resin and all things, particularly chess sets, made in it.
This set belongs to Chris who recieved it as a present 21 years ago

Name: Rodney from Chris Blampied's Wizard if Id chess set.
This set was first made in about 1974. It was made in metal powder filled polyester resin and then the outside surface was metalised with copper powder mixed with lacquer(the bronze side) and dry brushed silver frost(the dark side). We discovered that we could polish the pieces and expose the metal powder in the resin and we did this for some medieval sets at the time but the process was difficult and time consumming. This finish was a compromise I suppose.I am quite surprised that this set looks so good after all this time. Chris brought this set from the original Mind Games shop in Chapel street in Melbourne

Name: Large castle on a hill with a village at the base
Height 27cm. I am still working on this castle. It's made of pewter and is hollow . The original idea was to have a light inside it and the light would shine out thru the windows. There was also going to be a largish crystal on the top turret and light would shine out thru it. Have sort of let this project slip thru to the keeper and to mix a few thing o's I have put it on the back burner until the cows come home to roost.(ha ha)
